About Target Hunger:

The mission of Target Hunger is to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the Houston neighborhoods we serve. Our vision is a Houston where no one goes hungry and everyone can provide food for themselves and their families.

Target Hunger is one of Houston’s largest non-profit organizations providing direct food assistance to food insecure children, families, and seniors at risk of going hungry every day. Target Hunger's primary service area consists of the vulnerable northeast and east Houston neighborhoods, which include Denver Harbor, Fifth Ward, Kashmere Gardens, Magnolia Park, North Forest, Settegast, and many more.

Target Hunger focuses on providing food for all who are hungry while helping people attain a level of economic stability that can break them out of an ongoing cycle of food insecurity and poverty.

Target Hunger distributes immediate food aid through several channels: food pantries located in community centers and churches; a mobile food pantry; emergency packs for people without access to kitchens; home delivery for seniors, people with disabilities, and families with inadequate transportation; summer food programs for children on break from schools that offer two meals a day during the school year; educational food fairs open to anyone needing food assistance; a growing community partner program; and two community gardens producing vegetables for distribution while offering educational programming and volunteer opportunities.

Our Navigation Services program is staffed by a team of Community Health Workers, our Navigators develop ongoing relationships with clients, help them establish goals, and connect them to supportive services like rental or utility assistance, enrollment into federal meal programs, access to healthcare and enrollment in health insurance programs, or referrals to a wide network of Houston nonprofits.
